What Is Art Vendor Insurance?
Art vendor insurance is insurance coverage made for artists who sell or display their work at shows, fairs, and markets. It’s designed to cover the cost of claims if someone else is accidentally hurt or their property is damaged because of your booth.
Insurance Canopy’s event-ready coverage includes:
- $2 million aggregate limit in general liability protection
- 1–90 days of flexible coverage options for vendors
- An instant Certificate of Insurance (COI)
- Event-approved protection for common vendor claims
How Much Does Artist Event Insurance Cost?
Art vendor insurance starts at $49 per event, offering a quick, affordable way to get the protection most art shows and festivals require. It’s perfect for artists who sell at a few events each year and need instant proof of insurance.
For year-round creators, annual art festival vendor insurance starts at $279 per year. You get ongoing protection for multiple events, pop-ups, and markets in one policy. Your total cost may vary based on how long you need coverage and where you’re selling.
Who Needs Art Show Insurance?
No matter how you make it, display it, or sell it, vendor insurance is designed to cover a variety of makers, like:
- Ceramic and pottery artists
- Jewelry designers and metalsmiths
- Market, craft fair, and art festival vendors
- Mixed-media and fiber artists
- Painters and illustrators
- Printmakers and photographers
- Sculptors and woodworkers
Our coverage is crafted to meet the needs of creative small business owners, so you can help safeguard your business while doing what you do best: share your art with the world.
What’s the Difference Between a Vendor Event Policy and an Annual Policy?
The difference between an event policy and an annual policy for vendors comes down to how often you sell:
- Vendor Event policies offer short-term coverage for a single show or weekend
- Annual policies cover you all year at multiple events and for online sales, with optional add-ons like workshop and class coverage
If you attend just a few shows, short-term coverage is perfect, but if art is your full-time business, an annual policy is the best value.

What Kind of Insurance Do Art Vendors Need?
Art vendors typically need general liability insurance to meet event requirements and cover common claims, like third-party injuries or property damage.
Some creative businesses need additional types of vendor insurance to help protect against risks unique to their business. These coverages include:
- Product liability: Helps protect your business from claims of injury, harm, or damages related to your products or food
- Commercial auto: Insures your vehicle for damages and third-party injuries that happen while driving for work
- Workers compensation: Required by most states to help cover employee injuries or illnesses that happen on the job
- Professional liability: Helps cover damages or errors related to your professional services
- Liquor liability: Designed to protect businesses selling or serving alcohol at events as a regular part of their operations
- Cyber liability: Can help you and your customers recover from a cybercrime involving your business, like a data breach
- Inland marine: Insures your movable gear and equipment for third-party theft or damage incidents
Insurance Canopy helps art vendors find coverage for single events, busy seasons, and year-round selling. Get general liability coverage for one event, or explore annual policy options that help protect your business, products, and more.

FAQs About Art Vendor Insurance
Do Art Shows Require Insurance, and What Limits Do They Ask For?
Yes, art show insurance is often a requirement, and event venues commonly ask for general liability coverage with $1 million per occurrence (the maximum your policy will pay for a single claim) and $2 million aggregate (the maximum your policy will pay in a policy period) limits.
These limits are typically standard across fairs, festivals, and craft markets. Events may also require you to carry product liability insurance if you are selling handmade goods.
How Fast Can I Get a COI and Add an Additional Insured?
Get a Certificate of Insurance (COI) instantly when you buy a policy online through Insurance Canopy. Once your purchase is complete, you can download your COI in minutes and add unlimited additional insureds (like the venue or event organizer that asked to be listed on your policy) at no extra cost.
Your proof of insurance can be downloaded unlimited times and is ready to send the same day. No waiting, no back-and-forth hassle.
Can I Add Cyber Liability for Card Readers or Online Sales?
Yes, you can add cyber liability coverage to an annual art vendor policy to help protect against data breaches involving your card reader or online store.*
Cyber liability insurance is designed to help your business recover from data breaches, payment fraud, or hacking incidents. For example, it could help your business cover costs if customer card data from your card reader or online store is compromised.
It’s a smart layer of protection for artists who sell both in person and online.
*Cyber liability insurance is only available to add to annual vendor policies when purchasing through Insurance Canopy. You can select from two tiers of optional coverage.
Should I Buy Event Coverage or a Full Year of Art Business Insurance?
If you attend more than five events per year as a vendor or sell goods online year-round, an annual art business insurance policy is the best choice. This helps protect more of your business year-round for unlimited events.
If you’re more of a hobbyist who attends five or fewer art vending events per year, purchase one-day vendor insurance as needed to meet event requirements.
Do I Need Insurance to Sell Handmade Crafts?
It’s always a smart decision to have insurance coverage, especially as an artist who sells handmade items. Event venues typically require you to have art show insurance before you can attend, which typically includes general liability coverage.
Plus, theft, damage, and professional liability coverage can help protect you in the event of lost inventory or an accident that occurs while teaching a class/workshop.
